Protobuf-net faulty enum exception (issue 422) needs a good workaround

Question

I am working on a project that uses ProtoBuf in different languages ​​among them .NET. For .NET we use protobuf-net. We have extended enumerations, and they work on other platforms, but in .NET we get an exception when trying to de-serialize. When I found this, I found Issue 422 . Does anyone have a good workaround or know what to download and compile for local fix. We would prefer not to introduce weird extra listings or other weird things that contradict the definition of Protobuf.
