Xcode Instruments - "This tool does not support OSX"

I am trying to perform a performance analysis using tools (Xcode 7.2), but when I select the Core Animation tool, it only displays the message "This tool does not support OSX." I control El Capitan (10.11.3). What am I doing wrong? How else, if not through OSX, should I run it?

This message means that this tool can only be used to analyze an iOS application, and not for OS X. It cannot be started to analyze an OS X application.

Edit: Just tested, and the Core Animation tool also doesn't work with iOS Simulator. You must use a real device to analyze the iOS application.
