PyCharm Launched

I recently started getting an error from memory when using PyCharm 5.0.4 Message:

There not enough memory to perform the requested operation. Please increase Xmx setting and shutdown PyCharm for change to take effect.

I have already increased the value to 1024 MB, and as far as I know, nothing has changed either in the Python settings or in the system settings.

How exactly does Xmx memory size control and how can I debug the cause of the problem?

Reinstalling PyCharm fixed this problem for me.

What worked for me when I ran into this โ€œOut of memoryโ€ problem was clearing the cache. ("File -> Invalidate Caches / Reinstall ..."). It has been a few days and no additional problems. Previously, this happened five or ten minutes after the launch of PyCharm, even when I did nothing on PyCharm, except to look at it.

I am running PyCharm Community Edition 2016.1.4 on Windows 7 Enterprise.

There is already an error in Youtrack: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/PY-20429

As mentioned in the comments, you can try to profile CPU usage (instructions here https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/207241235-Reporting-performance-problems ) and report it there. I noticed that I killed all my debuggers by putting it in power saving mode and then returning it.

If you are using docker, keep in mind that Pycharm has some problems with creating multiple instances of dockers rather than destroying them. You will have to kill them manually.

I had the same problem. Reinstalling PyCharm did not help. I think this problem occurs when we have a large project size (also mentioned in https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/PY-20429 ). I just cut out some of the folders, including some results (txt files) from my project, and saved them in another directory. Now I do not get the error "out of memory", and the changes can be successfully completed.
