AddThis provides a customizable toolkit that allows visitors to share content on your site through social networks.
When this toolkit is active on my website, the 6 third-party cookies and the first 2 cookies are set, as shown in the screenshot below:
I do not subscribe to AddThis analytics. My only use of the toolkit is to make it simple so that my users can share the contents of my site on social networks.
There are recipes in StackOverflow such as that say you can embed JavaScript to set parameters like data_use_cookies false in addthis_config . As far as I can tell, these cookie prevention methods set by AddThis no longer work.
To comply with the EU cookie directive, I need to either delete these cookies or get informed consent from visitors (which means I need to document and inform visitors about my purpose).
Hence my questions:
- I really want to prevent AddThis from using cookies on my site. Is there any way to do this in 2016?
- If it is already impossible to prevent the use of AddThis with cookies (without turning off the AddThis toolkit), is there any documentation (AddThis or others) that explains what their purpose is?
The only thing I have found so far is AddThis privacy policy . This page is not very useful as it contains misleading statements:
"We do not install tracking software on your computer."
Since cookies are “tracking software” for all purposes, this statement is clearly false.
As for the goal, there is a partial answer to the AddThis support sub-site , but it does not take into account vc , and the first two are the batch files that it installs.
Cookiepedia explains __atuvc , but not __atuvs .
