Difference between LinkExtractor and SgmlLinkExtractor

I am new to the scrapy framework and I have seen several tutorials using LinkExtractors and several using SgmlLinkExtractor . I tried to find differences / pluses for both, but the results were not satisfactory.

Can someone tell me the difference between both? When should we use the above extractors?

The problem, why you cannot find references to SgmlLinkExtractor , is that it is now deprecated (related changeet ). You can find the definition of SgmlLinkExtractor here - inside Scrapy 0.24 documents.

And you should no longer use SgmlLinkExtractor - now Scrapy leaves only one link extractor - LxmlLinkExtractor - the one referred to by the alias LinkExtractor .
