Discard all files in a folder

Is there a way to return all documents in a folder to a revision at a specific time? I see how to do this for individual files, but how to do this for the entire folder?

As far as I know, recovery for a specific version is limited to the operation of each file. It would be possible to accomplish what you are looking for using their REST API , however, this will require special code.

I had the same problem, so I wrote this script to restore any Dropbox folder to its state on a specific date:

You have several options:

  • If you recently did something that changed a large group of files in Dropbox, and you want to revert all these changes, you can contact Dropbox support staff to make the changes bounce. See https://www.dropbox.com/help/400/en for more details. Based on discussions on the Dropbox forums, it seems that they are also ready and can restore any given folder to an arbitrary date if it is within the limits stored by Dropbox (30 days for the main account, for accounts with packrat all the way back when packrat was activated )

  • You can use the script written by clark800 related to it in a separate answer to this question. I did not use it, so I can not vouch for it, but for many it seems very pleased!

  • If you are on a Mac (OS X 10.7 or later), you can try a new application called "Revision" (available at https://www.revisionsapp.com ) that I worked on. The application allows you to select any folder in Dropbox and display the time frame of all changes for this folder. You can then restore or download any version of any single file, or restore or download the entire folder (including any subfolders) to its state at any time (subject to Dropbox restrictions mentioned above).

If you do not want to use a script, Dropbox allows you to select several files at once and restore them (if you log into your account online). Right-click and select "Show Deleted Files" first. Then, if these are just a few folders, either select the files separately by holding “Ctrl” and selecting them, or using “Ctrl” and “A” to select all of them. Then right-click and select recovery.
