How to add geospatial connections to ggplot map?

Using this as a reference, I'm trying to build a map of the bottom forty-eighth and add layers to visualize the flow between states.

This is what I get when I try to print the plot

Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : object 'lon' not found

I tried debugging this and found that it works

p + geom_line( data = list_lines[[1]], aes(x = lon, y = lat), color = '#FFFFFF')

but adding another layer for the second element of the list violates it, but what, as far as I could get with my limited knowledge of both R and ggplot!

gcIntermediate returns different column names (since for i = 2 the source and target destinations are identical):

for (i in 1:3) {

     lon   lat
1 -119.7 36.17

The following lines should work:
