Is it safe to use flexbox for small (mobile) media queries?

For my responsive site, I need to support IE9, which means that I cannot use felxbox yet. However, ive got a breakpoint on phones targeted at 500 pixels. Can flexbox be used in this media query? Mobile browser support seems good.

This is a new site, so I do not have any existing analytical data to make this decision.

It's safe to use Flexbox at any breakpoint with supported browsers , if you use all the necessary old prefixes , do it . Android and iPhone browsers that do not support flexBoxare essentially dead. *
