IOS 8 CloudKit: CKNotifications continue to display, marked as CKNotificationTypeReadNotification

Question

Whenever I request the past CKNotificationswith help CKFetchNotificationChangesOperation, I keep getting the whole bunch, marked as CKNotificationTypeReadNotification. Indeed, I read them before, marked them as read (using CKMarkNotificationsReadOperation), and update mine lastServerChangeTokenwhen prompted.

Why do they keep appearing?

It started to work ... and, unfortunately, I'm not sure why.
