Guidelines for creating a Flash video player

We have a custom built-in Flash video player that I support, and it should support preroll ads and, ideally, both progressive video playback and streaming depending on the server.

I work with the flvPlayback component, but I'm a little in my depth. Are there any good tutorials or resources for understanding the difference between netstream and flvPlayback? Or one part another? Googled with impunity.

We’ll probably use DART In-Stream for preroll ads, which is part of the reason I feel I’m losing the ability to structure this thing in the best way.

Any help with best practices or the most valuable links - ta!

EDIT - Update: I wrote the player manually and got more or less work with everything he needed to do, but in the end we switched to JW Player on all web resources, after about six months. It is very reliable and well maintained, it is well integrated with the DART system, and designers easily understood it.

I would definitely look at JW Flash Media Player:

This is open source, and I found the source completely clean and clear, it also supports playlists. I don’t know the DART In-Stream stuff, but maybe you could “creatively use” the playlist function to achieve this?
