I plan to install Drupal. Is there a reason not to install the latest version 6.x as opposed to the 5.x branch? Are there really good modules that are 5.x in size?
If you don’t have a 5.x module that you can’t do, and which, as you know, are working on upgrading to 6.x, just use 6.x. Just start with 5.x if you know that you have an upgrade path with your site to 6.x (and then 7.x). If the module is not actively working, then you will not be supported when 7.x will work, so you can solve the problem without this module with 6.x, and not wait until your site is developed and launched.
