Debugging SharePoint 2007 Code

How do you debug your SharePoint 2007 code? Since SharePoint runs on a remote server, and I am developing on a Windows XP computer (with the necessary DLL files copied to my GAC), I was not lucky to find easy ways to debug it. Breakpoints do not work, etc.

The best way I've come up with is to turn on the page trace in the web.config file, write trace messages all over my code and gain access to trace.axd whenever I need to debug.

Does anyone have any better debugging suggestions? Did I miss something?
