Is it important for developers that current and newer versions of .NET do not support Windows 2000?
It scares me that some of my clients are still using Windows 2000, and although I may one day give up support for Windows 2000, I donβt like the fact that Microsoft is pushing it toward people's products.
Can anyone see Microsoft do this with XP in the future to drive Vista sales later?
Just to clarify, this is not MS flutter, I love MS, but it is a real concern that I would like opinions.
In contrast, I do not see C ++ 0x developers saying that "it will not work in Windows 2000"
I'm really trying to convince myself that I should switch to .Net, but this is one of my problems.
Given that Microsoft has a double interest in this issue (selling you a new OS and creating the .NET platform), I would be very suspicious.
In fact, you will be able to support new versions of .NET on older operating systems using Mono , which is largely designed for cross-platform and backward compatibility.

FYI support for XP should pass at least 2010, and if they are willing to pay for support, maybe a few more years. Will .Net 3 [4] .XX work on XP? Maybe, but who should know? Win2k is a very old system at the moment, and there are things that are simply missing from the OS. Let it be.
