Color differences between images and html

I am having problems with css color colors with colors in images on the same html page. What gives?

I assume you are using a PNG image? This is a gamma correction function. Mark Ransom posted helpful text about this.

Please note that the solution pngcrushindicated somewhere did not work for me.
