Resources for designing windows and enhancing usability

Most of the resources that I have for user interface design deal with the web world. There are a number of advantages due to the dynamic nature of the presentation layer.

However, I would like to develop better windows programs. I need a professional thread for my applications. Now they look pretty nice using WPF, but the events seem scattered (i.e., almost unnatural progression), and I really don't know how to create a good (usability reasonable) interface. Does anyone write about this?

You can also take a look at the Windows User Engagement Guide or the UX Guide available at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa511258.aspx or in PDF . Here are the goals listed on the website:

  • Set a basic level of quality and consistency for all Windows-based applications.
  • Answer your specific questions about the user.
  • Make your job easier!
