Want to host WCF Webservice as a Windows service as opposed to hosting in IIS

I want to expose several web services, but I thought about placing them as a Windows service, and not for hosting in IIS.

Is this a good practice?

If yes? How to do it?

I want to authenticate users who access it (against our user security database, and also want the request to be received from our business partner (X.509 certificates ???? didnโ€™t work very much with this).

rate your pointers in this regard.

Thanks and Regards, Ajay
