Want to host WCF Webservice as a Windows service as opposed to hosting in IIS

Question

I want to expose several web services, but I thought about placing them as a Windows service, and not for hosting in IIS.

Is this a good practice?

If yes? How to do it?

I want to authenticate users who access it (against our user security database, and also want the request to be received from our business partner (X.509 certificates ???? didn’t work very much with this).

rate your pointers in this regard.
