Polygon Comparison for Similarities

What are the usual methods for comparing two polygons for similarity? The vertices are in 2D.

You will find some of the methods described here .

  • Rotation function
  • Schedule matching
  • Signature form by warping

It is used in areas such as image extraction (p. 52), which show the rotation function.

I have not read about the rotation function discussed by @VonC, but I suspect that the correlation of the vector (s) containing the slope difference between the segments will work well.
