The best / easiest way to configure Linux fast boot

We hope this applies to the StackOverflow probe anyway!

I am looking to create a fast bootable laptop for my wife. All he really needs is to be able to browse the Internet (with flash and video, etc.).

Are there any distributions for this or some guides that show good ways to speed things up? I read that I need to “remove things from the kernel that I don’t use,” but this is a bit of my skill set.

Thanks!

I am using Kubuntu 14.04.4 / 5 on a Dell dual boot laptop. At the moment I am not very happy. You are all right about the slowness of liveCD.

There are liveCD versions of working linux-distros with a browser and flash, java installed.

Check out LiveCD

You will find links to different download options.

There are also USB drive versions.
