The adoption of open source software in the organization

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using Open Source software for an organization? Is there anyone who did this, and how well is he developing some examples of the software they used and how it is used?

Usually contributions come because people do it as a hobby, then how can we make sure that it will support it? IMHO, in the case of proprietary software there is an incentive to organize (money), and they will continue to hire people to support them in development, while the software is profitable. Correct me if I am wrong. What arguments can I expect from a Manager who could object to using open source software?

Now, if it's just about the manager, then it's just about communication and argumentation. Usually they are afraid of support because it is a long-term cost. As a rule, they like to hear about best practices, tell them well what large companies (and examples) do, and that they also tend to participate in projects at other times when they can even or can find support for this.

In addition, any contractor will be happy to support OSS. Who would say no to money and the ability to develop OSS.
