Ping site in ruby?

What replacements are available for checking IP address in Ruby? The stdlib ping library seems rather limited in functionality. I am not interested in my own code. Are there any good gems? Should I just suck it and live with it?

(I am coding in Ruby 1.8.6 on Linux)

net-pingworth a look. It allows you to use a TCP-pins (for example, a standard ruby ping), as well as UDP, HTTP and ICMP-pins. ICMP ping requires root privileges, while others do not.
