How to indicate success and failure with color?

I need to create a Java component that will turn the background into a specific color while the process is running and a different color when the process fails.

My first thought was: green for success, red for failure.

But then I read that 10% of men cannot distinguish between these two colors. What will be better to combine colors?

(For nitpickers: yes, I know that one color is not enough, this text, shape and noise can also be used. However, I ask about the appropriate use of color.)
