PHP vs application server?

Question

For those of you who were able to write web applications in PHP and then as an application server (for example, Python-based solutions such as CherryPy or Pylons), in what context are application servers the best alternative to PHP?

I prefer PHP simply because it is available for almost any web server (especially for a shared host), but I'm looking for other good reasons for making an informed choice. Thanks.

The deployment benefit for PHP is huge. You will also have a large developer base, and you will have enough knowledge. In general, if you know well how to use the programming language correctly, it’s safer for you to stick to it.

The benefits of using the Python web infrastructure, such as Pylons, are that your code will be tidier and more convenient. Of course, this is possible with PHP, but it is much more difficult to achieve. Python is just a more convenient language than PHP, so it may affect your decision.
