Is there any way to port SourceSafe with HISTORY to SVN?

Ideally, I would like to use VisualSVN Server, but I really don't want to lose the SourceSafe story. If I must, I will.

Once upon a time (it seems) I tried to transfer the SourceSafe database to a disruptive system using vss2svn , but finally gave up. There were several problems, IIRC:

  • you must ensure that the SS DB is consistent (for example, Analyze does not detect any problems or cannot fix them).
  • it took a very long time to transfer the database because it was quite large.
