Which distribution is best for hosting LAMP + memcache? (Linode or Slicehost referral receives an answer)

Despite the fact that I have very little Linux experience, I am luring VPS too (and too afraid of craple / share hosting) to not try.

I am a smart guy and quickly pick up things. I took a class in Linux and I know the basic commands, how to execute commands on pipes, some scripts and shell materials - I almost forgot all that ... but I'm ready to learn all this again. Since I will use Linode or Slicehost, I am given the opportunity to swindle a lot.

So which distribution is best for me to start? I am looking for ease of use and administration here, especially in terms of installing LAMP + memcache and starting it up and starting by the end of today.

Linode or Slicehost? Any inherent differences between the two? Linode seems cheaper.

Finally, in order not to leave the referral field empty for any host that I choose, provide you with information and the referral will receive a winning answer :)

Using Linode for several months, it took less than an hour to set up virtual “boxes”, and we have not touched it since then, therefore, from my point of view (as a developer), which gets two thumbs up.

Using Ubuntu and no problems with the initial setup did not arise.

They did not use Slicehost, but, frankly, after the ease of installing Linode, there was no need to switch / try anything else.
