How to compare compilers

What pointers do you use to compare between compilers?

I am told that gcc is the best C compiler, is that true? If so, why?

I mean this in general, so you can specify which compiler is more suitable for which architecture.

(I heard that igc is more suitable for Intel, but I don't know why)

Personally, I intend to use the 64-bit version of AMD, developing in both Linux and Windows, a graphical interface and applications without a GUI.
