Modeling in java

I am new to the modeling world and want to learn how programmers develop real-life modeling projects in Java. I would use an eclipse. Can anyone point out other things that I need to know (for example, other packages, software, etc. And their goals)?

I am afraid this question may seem a bit vague, as it is not clear what type of project I'm talking about. But as a newbie, let me tell you what to start, how to code a modeling project.

If you are creating a Monte Carlo model for a discrete event simulation or a simulation model for derivative pricing , you should find the body frame code already there. If you are doing a numerical simulation, for example, a finite element model , you will base your modeling on a calculation library . There are other types of modeling , but these are the two most likely cases.

This is an old question, but for Simulation in Java, I just installed and tested JavaSim Mark Little, University of Newcastle on Tyne. As far as I can tell, it works very well if you have a model that you can convert to discrete event modeling. See Mark the site http://markclittle.blogspot.com.au/2008/03/csimjavasim.html . I also tried using Desmo-J, which is very extensive and has 2-D graphics mode, but could not get it to work under JDK 1.6 on Mac.
