Best built-in SQL DB for recording performance?

Has anyone done any benchmarking / evaluation of popular open source embedded SQL blocks to improve performance, in particular write performance? I have a 1: 1 comparison for sqlite, Firebird Embedded, Derby and HSQLDB (are I missing others?), But not in all comparisons ... Also, I would be interested in the general experience of developers for any of them (for a Java application) .

This criterion from db4o may be useful. It includes JavaDB (built on top of Derby), HSQLDB, SqlLite.

HSQLDB seems to go out of its peers, especially when writing. H2, as the successor to HSQLDB, is faster than HSQLDB, both for reading and writing, with optimization, clustering, transaction isolation functions.

Check out the comparison on the H2 Site .

I use it for my Eclipse plugin and I am very pleased with it. Extremely fast for native use, very easy to use (single JAR), excellent community support, highly recommended.
