Is it possible to set backgroundColor UITableViewCell to a grouped UITableView and support rounded cell corners?
All my attempts lead to the loss of rounded corners.

It is indeed possible, and the source code provided works fine.
Unfortunately no. I believe that round corners are a background with a transparent cell at the edges. When you try to use your own color (or image), it paints over them.
