How do you debug functions using postgres?

Question

I use pgAdmin III 1.8.4 and consider him a stern lover.

When writing stored procedures (functions), there is no compilation of queries. So I don’t know if my function will work until I name it.

How do other people work on this shortcoming? (Except for the first time for the first time: p)
