MAMP / LAMP - native or virtual (Virtualbox / VMware)?

What is your preferred development environment?

Native

  • WAMP / MAMP / LAMP (Apache, MySQL, PHP) for Windows / MacOS / Linux
  • Working copy local, SVN / CVS on the server
  • IDE / editor on the same system (Eclipse, Aptana, Zend ...)

Virtual / Native (Server in a virtual machine)

  • LAMP on VirtualBox / VMware
  • working copy in VM
  • IDE / editor on the host, access to the virtual machine using Samba, FTP, SFTP (ultimately, mapping using tools such as WebDrive)

Virtual (VM)

  • Complete VM development environment (server, tools, IDE)
  • The host is used only for special tools that are not available in the OS running in VM

All have pros and cons.
