Is it possible for open source software to have viruses / spyware / malware?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but sometimes I see Easter eggs and stuff in programs like Aptitude. (package manager for Debian)

Is this possible. // Is it possible that more sinister features end up in open source software?

This, of course, is possible, but it is more difficult. I do not know how much malware is happening, but people were mistaken with similar effects. (I know about the errors that were found, obviously I don’t know how many were there.)

both of them occurred as a result of the attack, so they were not installed by the original developers. I think this proves that he can, but not so likely, and will soon be raised if the application is popular enough.
