Basically, I'm pretty new to PHP, and lately I've heard about abn about SVN. After searching (googleing) for him, all I really could find was the SVN functions on the php.net website.
Can someone explain what SVN is, what it is used for, and is it worth it to study?

SVN (subversion) is the central repository used by the organization to track changes made to files as revisions. For example, let's say I have version number 1001 and you want to view it. This revision contains committed code and data. You can also view the history of all changes in SVN, as this feature is not available in CVS (Current Version Control System).
