IIS as a reverse proxy

I am doing IIS authentication on an application running on a J2EE server (JBoss). Are there any ways IIS can act as a reverse proxy and distribute the username and / or user role in the proxy application (JBoss). Also, what version of IIS will I need, if possible? I have a license for IIS, so I would like to do it in IIS, but otherwise I would prefer to use open source.

This is not open source, but ApplicationRequestRouting for IIS 7.0 can act as a reverse proxy.
