SVN update command to install one external subfolder?

There is a bunch of external directories in the plugins folder.

~> svn propedit svn:externals .

akismet http://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/akismet/trunk/
stats http://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/stats/tags/1.3.7/
html-purified http://svn.wp-plugins.org/html-purified/trunk/

Several times I update the link to an external link to update the version number from 1.3.7 to 1.3.8, but I am forced to publish a command svn upfor the entire folder and just svn up statsdoes not work, instead it returns something like:

At revision 108437.

Instead of updating a folder from an external repository. Is it possible to update one external subfolder?

No, because this is one property in the parent folder that defines these external link links for each of the "virtual" subfolders. Actual subfolders do not exist in the eyes of Subversion.
