SNMP device emulation

We have a network management system under linux, C / C ++, perl, and we need to check the performance of this system. Is there a tool or method that allows us to emulate 50,000 SNMP devices?

I do not know what else to say here ... Please let me know if I have to provide additional information.

Any idea is welcome.

Thanks. Bogdan

Thank you for your responses. Here we solve this problem right now:

  • We have linux VM with 1 interface (eth0).
  • We are adding 50'000 virtual interfaces (eth0: 1, eth0: 2, etc.).
  • The SNMP daemon starts and responds to requests through all IP addresses.

The snmpsim tool has reportedly been able to support ~ 50K agent modeling. It can mimic different agents by responding to different IP addresses or to individual SNMPv1 / v2c community names or SNMPv3 context names.

There are also tips for optimizing performance.
