How do I map my Windows key (which is defined as the Meta_L key in Ubuntu) so that it also works as the Ctrl+ key Lin Vim? This is a more convenient display for me in some cases.
It looks like Ctrl, and Althard-coded into the source Vim. You can map your Windows key Ctrlglobally if you don't mind all other programs. Some window managers will support this, otherwise you can use xmodmap . The vim wiki contains some information about mapping a Windows key to another Esc, which is similar.
You must reassign all the sequences that you use <C->to use <M->and put them in a separate .vimrc.
<C->
<M->
For a complete list of current mappings, use
:redir > ~/mappings | map | redir END :e ~/mappings :g!/<C-/d
