An effective way to solve cryptographic problems

Hi, I came across this puzzle, which is a subset of the well-known puzzles based on words and numbers called Cryptographic Algorithms . Say you have an expression like

SEND + MORE = MONEY

Now the interesting part is that each alphabet is a unique number from 0 to 9. I wanted to write a generalized solver, but in the end I wrote a rude forced solution for it. Any takers how can I solve this?

I think that this can be solved using predicate logic or set theory. And I'm particularly interested in finding solutions based on C # or Python. Any.?
