Faster than javac / ant?

I find java to start and work almost instantly for me, but javac takes a few seconds and ant makes it slower. It is only a few seconds, but my edit-compile-test cycle will be smoother without it. :-)

By the way: I already used vim ": make" with ant.

Is there a way to speed up javac and / or ant? I think of special switches or tricks? Or maybe an alternative java compiler (I use 1.6, on Linux)

Eclipse does this for you ... but it is probably a little big, like a patch for your problem.

  • java- ant ( ). , ant ; , . . API Java 6.

  • eclipse. javac, Eclipse "" , , . , . ( ), .

I point all my output files to ramdisk, which I create with this utility . It speeds up the creation of an honest bit (although not to a magical degree), since almost everything is in memory. This is most noticeable when creating a "clean" assembly, which becomes almost instantaneous.
