Problem with drawing in Java Swing App in Java 1.6

I am working on a Swing application (currently working on version 11 for Java 1.6), which has some problems updating a short-term update (for example, there are artifacts, etc.). This only happens with some users of our application, but not with others.

After some research, I found that setting the property sun.java2d.d3don falsemight help, and actually it helped one of our users.

Now that some other users are complaining about the problem, I'm thinking of setting this property falseto a property for all users.

My main questions are:

What exactly is the reason for this? Is this a video card? Is it a driver? Is this a mistake from the sun? (e.g. http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6635462) Combination of all three?

In other words, is it best to simply disable this property or affect only certain video cards in which the update to the latest driver is fixed?
