What is the best place for a solution file in Visual Studio?

I prefer the solution file to be in the same folder as the project files in Visual Studio. I know that this is achieved by unchecking the "Create directory for solution" checkbox. However, VS 2008 has a checkbox by default.

I am interested in other people's opinions on whether the decision file should live in the same directory.

When a solution contains more than one project, I like the solution file in the parent directory and the project files in its child directories.

When the solution contains many projects (my current solution has 36 projects / assemblies), then I will have:

I prefer it something like this:

MyProject
  src
    Domain
    Application
    Infrastructure
    UI
  solutions
    MyProject
    Infrastructure
    Domain
The Solutions folder contains folders with solutions. All projects reference the src folder.
