SVN will not transfer unversioned files, even if they are displayed with svn status

I ran into difficulties setting up a new project in the original control. I imported the project into subversive activities and everything works fine on the surface. However, whenever I add a new file to the project, although it appears as unversioned when I run the svn status, it is not checked when I try to register, or using svn ci -m 'msg' , or when I try in my version of OS X svn client.

here is an example output from svn state:

? Assets/Placeholder Images/shopping_list_1.png

And when I try to check-in, it checks only those files that were already versions. The rest are silently ignored!

Any ideas on how I can solve this?

You must add the file to your working copy:

svn add Assets/Placeholder Images/shopping_list_1.png

then you can check it in the repository:

svn ci -m "Added shopping list placeholder image"

The question icon in the first column of the status output means that the file is not ignored, but also not a version. This is the svn way of saying "yeah, what do you want me to do with this?"

Check out the plugin for OS X. This is similar to TortoiseSVN for Windows users.
