Are my SSIS issues justified?

I only used SSIS briefly, but I find that my complaints are numerous. Here are my current issues:

  • In order for the packet to store the password, you need to encrypt it. Even if the package is part of a larger solution, you must provide a password at any time to open any of the encrypted packages. Why can't you just encrypt the whole solution with one password? I have a solution with 10 encrypted packets. When I click "Build", I have to enter 10 passwords.
  • Credential encryption is great. Deploying the encrypted packet on the server, providing the password, successfully testing it, scheduling it, and then crashing during the schedule, because it cannot decrypt SUCKS itself. This seems to be random, and I reinstalled this package several times before it can actually decrypt the package credentials successfully during a scheduled job.
  • Windows authentication only? This may be a security feature, but it creates a real pain in the butt for remote server management. This basically makes me use remote desktop. Does it really matter that I cannot access SSIS when I have access directly to the DB Engine.
  • DTS support. DTS was pretty ugly, but it worked and was pretty basic. Why didn’t they provide the developer of the DTS 2000 package with SSIS ??? Now I need to download it and install it with administrator privileges.
  • UPSERTS ??? I am replicating some data to an external database, and restoring this database is SUCH PAST. Why is this feature not built-in? Why can't I just say, "This is a key column. Refresh, if exists, create, if not."

Are these valid problems, or am I just familiar with the product to know how to do things right?

Do others have the same problems or other problems?

Are there any simple alternatives to using SSIS?
