Hi, I'm trying to learn CSS and look at the source of websites to find out how this works in practice. The other day I came across a 960 grid and found a really beautiful site design that uses the 960gs structure -> OneHub
At this point, I don’t think it’s very reasonable for me to use a CSS structure until I get a better understanding of CSS. So my question is how did they reach a centralized content window on a website with a background that fills to the width of your browser.
I have firebug installed and I can’t understand why divs on their site, for example. #gutter, #navigation will expand to fill the entire width of the browser. I don’t see how these divs calculate the value of their width, because it seems that none of the children is big enough or has a rule that would make these divs get bigger.
I don’t understand how the width is 100%, I would expect to see some kind of automatic field rule or 100% width specified somewhere in CSS, but I can not find it. Other sites using 960gs may do the same, but I just used this site for reference, as I think it has a nice design.
Hope my question makes sense and thanks you for any help with this
