(Ruby, Rails) Role-based authentication and user management ...?

I am looking for a quality admin plugin for Rails. It seems that most of the existing plugins / gems (e.g. "restful_authentication", "act_as_authenticated") revolve around self-registration, etc. However, I am looking for a fully functional role-based administration / management type of solution - but not one that simply tied to another non-role-based solution.

If I can’t find him, I believe that I will give up my own ... I just did not want to reinvent the wheel.

None of the solutions listed there seem to me very attractive. The main challenger, role_requirement , apparently requires restful_authentication, but I find AuthLogic is much better designed and less intrusive. The rest, apparently, are not very actively supported.
