What is Windows programming and where does it go? Honestly, win32 is dead, isn't it?

I recently read a blog post about someone asking for a good book on window programming. He was worried by the fact that most of the books he found were about 10 years old and probably out of date (don't worry, he found ordinary suspects, including Charles Petzold). Until today, I did not want to leave comments on his site, because I simply can not answer it. Of course, since then, Windows software has changed and divided in many different directions, but where does it go?

A few years ago, Win32 was, of course, a way of programming for Windows anyway. Reasonable fast, many examples and so on. However, due to the switch to .NET (I heard that the fourth incarnation is coming ...), there seems to be a change. Although the old API is still standing, and some kind of .net code is using it, it seems to me more and more that it is losing its importance. Of course, there are several reasons: firstly, C # (.net) with all the advantages in providing the programmer with a modern language is superior to C / C ++ in many ways. Another thing is that in my personal opinion MS with its privileges, the VS IDE is developing the .NET application very much, but why is this so? I mean, why are there so many interesting features in C #, and it seems to me that win32 / c is part of semi-finished products (like Designer)? Another thing, that Win32's question about Codeproject and many other forums is becoming less frequent by the month. The last thing I want to add is that all modern GUI / Network GUIs are for .NET (Dundas, etc.), which makes rapid development very easy and leaves little room for old guys ...
