Real testing CakePHP controllers?

Question

I am writing a new application with CakePHP (just released 1.2.4) using SimpleTest 1.0.1. I read the relevant sections of the Cookbook , viewed in the Bakery and read messages Mark Story about testing the controller ( the hard way and with Mocks ).

Unfortunately, none of this suggests real testing of non-trivial controllers. Many applications put areas of a site for registration, but I cannot figure out how to test a simple scenario:

• guest access to redirect secure page?
• Are valid credentials setting expected session variables?
• Invalid credentials redisplay login page with error message?

The controller and test below do not work as I thought. Both statements fail, and I also get a PHP error:
