I am the developer of the Synergy + project , and today we received our first donation! Now I wrote at some point that we will spend money on advertising to find new developers, but I'm not quite sure how to do this, or if this is the best way to spend donations. We would spend it on hosting, only we use only canned hosting for our site, which is free. Perhaps in the future we will have some hosted services, but I do not know if this will ever be needed.
Does anyone have any experience handling money donations from end users? I would like to know what other projects have done with this (e.g. Ubuntu). Should we just save it for a rainy day? In addition, I accept PayPal donations to my personal account, which I fear a little, because the project does not belong to me - it has collective ownership. Is it normal to have one person who is a treasurer?
Update 1:
Thanks for your comments! In response, I changed our expression about how donations will be spent.
“We are currently creating a reserve of funds so that we can hire professional open-source developers to fix the most critical errors and move the project forward. We promise to spend your donations very carefully and discuss how the funds should be. We will not only provide you with a donation , but would also help our project move forward, it will also enhance morale and public spirit, because it shows that what we do really matters! Thank you.
