Emacs: viewing spaces / tabs

Notepad ++ has an amazingly convenient button that I can click to see the characters, where are spaces, tabs, and linefeeds, so I can see which spaces are caused by spaces and which are caused by tabs. Can I do this in emacs? If not, how is testing in emacs usually going? Does the file you are reading look at, separating lines with spaces or tabs?

The WhiteSpace package does this. Your code will display a combination of tabs, spaces, and newlines.

There are some alternatives .
