IIS scalability

I was recently commissioned to estimate the number of compatible users that IIS can handle. Unfortunately, I have 0 experience with IIS, so I hope someone guides me where to look. I hope I don’t have to do my own benchmarking at this point.

I would like to know how many concurrent connections it can handle. Depending on the answer, clients will use a comet / long-term survey or a survey. The web application under IIS will be the SOAP web service. A service is neither computation nor data intensity.

It will run on today's conventional hardware, core2 duo, 4GB RAM and other applications on the box.

This blog post might help with the launch.

From this post:

IS6 can easily handle 3,000 concurrent network connections, assuming you:

  • You have enough HW resources (such as RAM) in the system.
  • Reconfigure the system (i.e., configure any applicable restrictions)
  • Run a scalable user software that handles user load (i.e. uses asynchronous IO, not necessarily multi-threaded, has corresponding caches, etc.).
