Silverlight Raise

I have absolutely no idea about Silverlight, except that it is Microsoft technology. Having almost completed the degree in Computer Science, having programmed in C # for several years in a working environment - I am well versed in Java and OO methods - how difficult is it to move along the middle Silverlight programming path? I was offered some kind of DAMN IT job!

I came down with PHP, HTML and almost no CSS.

Do I need a strong web programming background to pick it up?
